Star Points

Introduction

Darren Littell with Margaret Thatcher

The Zeta Psi Star Points Program is designed to provide a structured framework that will guide undergraduate Zetes as they develop their skills as brothers and citizens. As a brother progresses through the five points of the program, he will enhance his abilities and confidence in his own leadership skills as a Zete, a member of the community, and as a professional.

A participant in the program expands his knowledge and involvement with Zeta Psi both within the chapter and as a member of our international brotherhood. He will also become more familiar with the workings of his university and community by taking an active role in campus groups and in community service both on campus and within the general population.

Progression through the five points will benefit a brother's chapter by making him a more knowledgeable and capable leader, and it will benefit the individual brother as well by preparing him to be a productive member of the professional world. The Star Points program advances the ideals of Zeta Psi and the status of our brothers within the Greek community and, ultimately, within the workforce. The lessons of the Star Points program are designed to be carried into an Elder's career, producing a generation of recent graduates over the next few years who will have a greater bond with the brotherhood and be better prepared for the real world.

Zeta Psi Starpoints 5 Point PinAwards:

Certificates are awarded for completion of each of the five points over your undergraduate career. These certificates must be provided by a member of the Star Points Committee, and signed by a committee member and your chapter Phi. In addition, pins are awarded for points two through five, and should be worn at all formal Zeta Psi functions including LTI and Convention.

A black star pin is awarded for the second point, white star for the third, gold star for the fourth, and gold star with wreath for the fifth. To bear one of these pins is a great honor for any Zete, and is testament to the fact that the bearer lives up to a higher standard of excellence than most around him.

How to Get Started:

Below are basic instructions for how a brother or chapter may get involved in Star Points. As you get started, it is important to remember that Star Points is intended to provide a framework for developing leadership abilities over the rest of your undergraduate life, and you are by no means expected to finish the entire program in a single semester or year. You may find that you have already completed many of the requirements, and can consider this a head start.

No matter what your current status within the Star Points program, simply try to maintain a steady pace of accomplishment, focus on your academics, and realize that reaching any of the point levels is an accomplishment that every Zete should be proud of.

You should also remember that, as brothers, we have a support network set up to help you succeed, and you can find your Star Points Committee Regional Representative’s contact information on the downloadable contact sheet on this website. These brothers are dedicated to your and this program’s success.

Individuals:

  1. Download the Star Points Undergraduate Manual (doc / pdf) from this website and read over the requirements.
  2. Tell your chapter Phi that you have started the program and ask him to sign off on any tasks that you have already completed.
  3. Contact your Star Points Committee Regional Representative to let him know about your progress and ask him to sign off on any full points that you have completed by submitting your paperwork with your Phi’s signatures to him.
  4. Continue to complete Star Points tasks as you advance through your college career.
Remember that not all tasks must be completed in order.
  5. Help motivate others in your chapter to work on Star Points.

Chapters:

  1. Download the Star Points Undergraduate Manual (doc / pdf) and distribute it to the chapter.
  2. You will notice that many of the first point requirements are similar to tasks performed during the new member education process. Make completing Star Points part of your chapter’s culture by ensuring that every new member has completed his first point by initiation.
  3. Ensure that the Phi is dedicated to signing off on the progress of each brother as they progress through the program. Remember that not all tasks must be completed in order.
  4. Contact your Star Points Committee Regional Representative to let him know about your chapter’s interest in the program and ask for and guidance or assistance that you may need.
  5. Help foster a system where those with more Star Points experience help younger brothers through the program.

You will soon reap the benefits of your hard work. Good luck, and welcome to Star Points.

Star Points Contacts:

Please do not hesitate to contact the Star Points Committee, especially your regional representative, if you are interested in the program or if you have any questions.
